Mass Transit Within San Francisco:

Our area of the Presidio is served by San Francisco MUNI bus routes. This site maintained by The Presidio Trust keeps a full list of routes and methods for getting to the Presidio by public transportation. Below is a list of some:

29 (Sunset): As you reach the main post of the Presidio, ask the driver to let you off at the Main Post. Our building is 220 and is behind the fire station on the eastern side (towards the water) of Lincoln.

43 (Masonic): Get off at Letterman Hospital and walk north on Lincoln to Halleck. Our building is 220 and is behind the fire station on the eastern side (towards the water) of Lincoln.

82X (Levi's Plaza express) (rush-hour service to the CalTrain station: Get off at the Main Post (Lincoln Boulevard at Montgomery). Our building is 220 and is behind the fire station on the eastern side (towards the water) of Lincoln.

The 41 (Union) and 45 (Union-Stockton): These buses serve downtown and drop you off at Lyon and Union streets, just a few blocks south of the Presidio's Lombard gate. It's about a 15-minute walk from the Lombard gate or Letterman Hospital to us in building 220. (See the map).

From the Mission or Castro districts, take the 33 (Stanyan) to Haight Street, cross the street, and then board a 43 (Masonic) headed the other direction (the bus turns north onto Masonic).

From the south bay on CalTrain: The 45 Union and (at rush hour only) the 82X provide good connections from the 4th and King station.

From BART, get off at Powell Street station and take the 45 Union bus heading north up Stockton (Stockton is parallel to and one block east of Powell).

From the North Bay

Take highway 101 south across the Golden Gate Bridge.

From the Golden Gate Bridge toll plaza continue on 101 and follow the signs for 101/Downtown and 101/Presidio for 1.5 miles.

Highway 101 (which becomes Doyle Drive) splits into Marina (to the left) and Downtown/Lombard (to the right). Veer to the right toward Downtown/Lombard.

From the Marina/Lombard split, follow 101/Doyle Drive to Downtown/Lombard for 1/2 mile and turn right onto Lombard proceed through the Lombard gate into the Presidio.

From the East Bay

Take Interstate 80 west over the Bay Bridge.

After passing the Fremont Street exit (the first exit off of the Bay Bridge), continue 1 1/4 miles to highway 101 north/Golden Gate Bridge.

Follow that turnoff and continue on Highway 101 1/4 mile to the Mission Street/101 north/Golden Gate Bridge exit. After exiting, turn right onto Mission Street. Continue two blocks to Van Ness.

Turn left onto Van Ness/101 north. Continue 2 miles to Lombard Street.

Turn left onto Lombard Street and proceed one mile to Broderick. Immediately following the intersection of Lombard and Broderick get in the left-hand turn lane (there will be signs to the Presidio).

Turn left onto Lombard Street (you will be turning left onto Lombard as the Lombard you turned off of becomes Richardson, after the Broderick intersection traffic signal). Continue two blocks to Lyon and the gates to the Presidio will be immediately in front of you.

Continue through the Lombard gate into the Presidio.

From the South Bay via Highway 280

Take Interstate 280 north to San Francisco

When Interstate 280 splits into Route 1 and 280, veer left, onto Highway 1 (19th Avenue).

Follow Highway 1 (19th Avenue) north across San Francisco. After you emerge from the tunnel, take the exit on the right (rather than following Highway 1 north as it merges onto 101 north, which feeds to the Golden Gate Bridge). This puts you one what is nominally 101 south (although you are in fact heading east).

The Presidio is on your right and the Exploratorium/Palace of Fine Arts is dead ahead. Follow 101 south toward Lombard Street (that is, don't take the left-hand exit for the Marina).

From the Marina/Lombard split, follow 101/Doyle Drive to Downtown/Lombard for 1/2 mile and turn right onto Lombard proceed through the Lombard gate into the Presidio.

From the South Bay via Highway 101

When Highway 101 splits into the Highway 80/Bay Bridge and Highway 101/Golden Gate Bridge approaches, veer left, onto Highway 101.

Follow the 101 north/Golden Gate Bridge turnoff and continue 1/4 mile to the Mission Street/101 north/Golden Gate Bridge exit. After exiting, turn right onto Mission Street. Continue two blocks to Van Ness.

Turn left onto Van Ness Avenue/101 north. Continue north for 2 miles to Lombard Street.

Turn left onto Lombard Street and continue 1 mile to Broderick. Immediately after the intersection of Lombard and Broderick, get in the left-hand turn lane (there will be signs to the Presidio).

Turn left onto Lombard (you will be turning left onto Lombard as the Lombard you turned off of becomes Richardson, after the Broderick intersection traffic signal). Continue two blocks to Lyon Street and continue through the Lombard gate (immediately in front of you) into the Presidio.

Once you've reached the Lombard gate at the Presidio...

Take Lombard Street into the Presidio until it ends at Presidio Boulevard. Bear right onto Presidio Blvd. After one block, Presidio Boulevard turns into Lincoln Boulevard. Continue along Lincoln for approximately 1/3 mile and turn right on Halleck Street. On your left behind the fire station you will see our office building bearing the sign "Headquarters." Turn left into the parking lot driveway and left again to park. There are bicycle racks and car parking available. Wheelchair access is on the south side and there is an elevator in the building to take you to the second floor.
