Emerging metadata standards

In the archival field, two rather different approaches are provided by
the University of British Columbia project with the US Dept of Defense:

and that the University of Pittsburgh project to define metadata for
"business acceptable communications":

The Dublin Core is much less elaborate than the schemes implied by both
of these projects, and is probably more realistic if evidentiary values
are not a major concern, but for the purposes of the completely intact
preservation of a digital object, these should be looked at.
