This person sent me email after looking through the Long Now website and
about Time and Bits...she asked who our archivists were and asked if she
had some suggestions:

>>We have used Luciana Duranti at the University of British Columbia as
an
archival consultant and have found her approach, based on diplomatics
brought into the electronic age, very invigorating. We are presently
recipients of a grant from the National Historical Publications and
Records Commission to work on electronic records issues, and they have
had a program to fund research for years (but you doubtless know about
all that).

>>Oh also PS some years ago I was asked to comment on a study done by
Rand
or some such that had asked all kinds of people (archaeologists,
linguists) how to mark radioactive waste disposal sites so that they
would be recognizable as such in 10K years (we were asked because at the

time there was a proposal to dump it on Mississippi).
And one more thing: I am the editor of Mississippi Archaeology and was
just in the process of editing a book of essays on paleoethnobotany MUCH

concerned with the long view...
